ASHLEY: I began treatment for lupus, and though it took a little while, I started to feel a bit better. I was able to reduce my steroids to a lower dose. My doctor explained that the disease could eventually attack my kidneys. She told me what signs and symptoms to watch out for.

ASHLEY: About 2 months ago, I started having some swelling in my legs and foamy urine. I called my rheumatologist right away, and she sent me for lab work. She saw that my protein was too high and sent me to see a nephrologist. I had a biopsy for my kidneys, which was so scary. Afterward, I was diagnosed with lupus nephritis. I don't think you're ever prepared to receive that kind of news. I never really thought this would happen to me.

ON-SCREEN TEXT: Recently diagnosed with lupus nephritis - ~2 months ago, presented with the following: Proteinuria: 2.4 g/24 hours; Active urinary sediment. Renal biopsy confirmed Class III lupus nephritis.

ASHLEY: I had a good discussion with my doctors, and I feel confident with the treatment plan they shared.
